A unique fusion of culture and color is what this Hindu ceremony, held in New Orleans, LA., is bursting of. According to Hindu.weddings.com, traditionally, “Indian weddings lasts an average of three days. On the first night, a priest will often perform the ganesh pooja, a ceremony that usually happens at home with only the couple, the bridal party, and close relatives in attendance.” Tinia and Kiran’s wedding celebrations started on Wednesday inside Tania’s mother’s home. “The second day begins with a mehndi ceremony. For this, the bride and her female friends and family members will have intricate henna patterns drawn on their hands and feet. Also, that evening, the sangeet takes place. Every wedding guest is invited, and it involves an introduction of the couple’s families, mingling, a meal, and dances or other performances.” Photos on the second day show Tania receiving her henna drawn on. “On the third day, the main ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception take place.” The final day included the turmeric ceremony and a guest welcomed reception in the French Quarter. Along with having a beautiful wedding, the Couple also managed to fit in a pre-wedding portrait session featuring the French Quarter’s landmarks and history, the day before the wedding.
Bright colors, food, and family made this an event to remember.
Getting Ready:
The Party
From the Photographer…
Tania and Kiran are world travelers. From the moment they met they knew they would be setting off for great adventures together. While dating they lived in Chicago, New York, and many other locations before this pair chose to make Seattle their home. Tania is originally from Purto Rico and Kiran, Colorado. They chose New Orleans for their destination wedding because Tania’s family had moved their several years prior. They also felt that this city with all of it’s history would be a wonderful backdrop for their wedding celebration. The chose to highlight their travels by making their wedding theme “Oh the Places You’ll Go” from the Dr. Suess book. The message? That no matter how far they travel, the best is yet to come.
